1971 was the last year of the FIA's 5 liter Group 5 Sports Cars class competing for the International Championship for Makes. The dominant cars that year were the Porsche 917 and the Ferrari 512 and the cars seen here at the Watkins Glen 6 Hour race, a Penske 512M driven by Mark Donohue and 917K driven by Jo Siffert, were two of the fastest. The Ferrari started from the pole position and the Porsche started next to it in 2nd place on the grid.
