Description
Looking at this grand old building in Venice with the crooked shutters, iron bars on the first floor windows, and the laundry drying on the clothes line one can't help but to wonder how many generations of people and families have graced this grand old facade. Venice has been around for more than 1,200 years and many of the buildings still standing today are in the 500-800 year old range so I stopped to wonder who lives there now? Who built this wonderful sturdy building and when? How many families have called this place home in the past 700 or so years? I look at the beauty of the aged walls, the deteriorating bricks, the patchwork and repairs that all add character and personality to the people who lived there. Venice is filled with buildings with character like this, which is the reason I love walking, looking and wondering.
